About

International Mathematics Olympiad

The International Olympiad of Mathematics (iOM) is widely considered the premier educational event for math enthusiasts from all around the world. It is a highly anticipated event that ignites the imagination of students and provides them with an opportunity to showcase their true potential. The competition is held annually at both national and international levels, drawing from the syllabi provided by various boards such as CBSE/ICSE/ICBSE and other State Boards.

One of the distinctive features of iOM is its emphasis on not just theoretical but also practical knowledge of mathematics. Applied Mathematics forms an integral part of the exam paper, which requires students to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. This enables them to develop critical thinking skills and apply their knowledge in a practical setting.

Furthermore, iOM provides students with a comprehensive report based on their performance in the Olympiad examination. This report offers an in-depth analysis of their strengths and shortcomings, allowing them to identify areas that require improvement. This feedback also motivates students to strive for excellence and push themselves to reach their full potential in the field of mathematics.

In conclusion, the International Olympiad of Mathematics is an essential event that not only tests the mathematical knowledge and competency of students but also provides them with an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and apply their knowledge to real-world problems. The comprehensive report generated from the Olympiad examination provides students with valuable feedback that can help them identify areas for improvement and strive for excellence.

Structure of the Olympiad

Level 1

All the students of classes 1st to 12th are eligible to take part in Level 1.

Eligibility for Level 2

Top 1000 Olympiad rank holders between 4 and 1003 with minimum marks of 50% and above.

Class 1st Rank holders with minimum 75% marks and 100 participation in the respective subject from the school.

Eligibility for Level 3

International Olympiad 1st rank holders of Classes 6th to 12th from 2nd level will be eligible for level 3. Level 3 will be conducted in New Delhi, India.

Examination

The Olympiad is organized in the respective schools of the participants during the school hours. The structure of the Olympiad stands as the following:

There will be a different question paper for each class. All the questions are objective-type with no negative marking for wrong answers.

The medium of the test is English only.

The Olympiad is conducted annually on two dates in school premises. The school may opt from the two dates suggested for the Olympiad examination. Each date of the Olympiad exam has a separate set of question papers.

Registration of Students

The prospectus containing the Registration Forms of iOM are sent to all the schools registered with the SilverZone Foundation. However, it might not have updated information which has been incorporated and updated later in this website regarding changes in syllabus, prizes and levels etc.

The schools must return the Registration Forms, properly filled in and complete in all respects, by the due date to the Foundation.

Principals/teachers may please note that any school can become a registered centre for the International Olympiad of Mathmatics (iOM). No fee is required for the same. Only for feasibility reason, a minimum of 20 students need to be registered for the iOM, from the school.

Any clarification regarding rules, format/pattern of the paper, etc., may be sought from the SILVERZONE FOUNDATION through phone-call 011-69114100(30 Lines) or email at info@silverzone.org.

Raw Score Calculation

The raw score is computed by multiplying each correct answer by its corresponding base marks and summing the results. In mathematical terms: Raw Score = SUM (correct answer × subsequent base Marks).

Total Marks Calculation

Total Marks are determined by adding the raw score to the sum of the weightage of correct answers. Each question carries an additional weightage, starting from .0001 and increasing incrementally (.0002, .0003, and so forth). For instance, Question No. 1 has a weightage of .0001, Question No. 2 has .0002, and so on. This weightage is utilized to resolve ties when calculating Class/Zonal/Olympiads ranks.

Olympiad Rank

This encompasses all students from India and abroad belonging to the same class.

Class Rank

This encompasses all students from various sections/divisions of the same class within the same school.
